Every year for the holiday season Thornton Law Firm proudly supports the Heading Home nonprofit. Our staff and lawyers buy and wrap presents to the residents Heading Home serves in shelters, transitional, and permanent housing.

Heading Home has been a pioneer in ending homelessness in the greater Boston area for four decades.  They do more than provide shelter. They assist individuals and families in getting the many services that help them move forward in their lives in a positive way. Their work helps ensure that their clients will never again be homeless. From the Heading Home website:

Heading Home’s mission is to end homelessness in Greater Boston by providing a supported pathway to self-sufficiency that begins with a home, together with critical services such as life skills, financial literacy, and job training.

For eleven consecutive years, 90+% of the residents in our permanent housing programs have remained successfully housed a year later.

Heading Home needs our support throughout the calendar year. You can donate money here. They also have an Amazon wishlist that lets you purchase urgently needed supplies for their clients, like housewares, personal care products, diapers, and sheets and towels.

We thank our staff who throw themselves wholeheartedly into the Heading Home gift giving every year. This initiative is led by Legal Assistant Sandi Goodwin, who coordinates the shopping, wrapping, organizing, and transporting of shelter gifts to Heading Home. Many hands make light work, and we are grateful to all who participate.

For over 25 years, every December the employees of Thornton Law Firm LLP purchase and wrap hundreds of presents for families and children living in transitional housing provided by Heading Home, a fantastic charity aiming to end homelessness in greater Boston.

Families with children remain the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.  There are an estimated 4,100 homeless families Massachusetts alone, including 839+ families who are living in motels.

Heading Home serves nearly 1,600 homeless people in Greater Boston annually. Their clients are both individuals and families spanning all ages, from infancy (and even pre-natal care) to elderly. A typical homeless family consists of a single mother in her 20s with 1-3 children; the majority of their family program participants are young single mothers. People with disabilities are disproportionately homeless; they also provides specific services for individuals with disabilities both directly and via partnerships with housing development corporations. Heading Home also provides its clients with critical services such as life skills, financial literacy, and job training.

We are grateful to our Sandi Goodwin who does yeoman’s work in coordinating, shopping, wrapping, organizing, and transporting the shelter gifts to Heading Home. Many hands make light work, and many employees work on this annual project. We are very appreciative of their generosity and holiday spirit.
